With a fresh take on a Jamaican favorite V&M Creative Gizzadas has infused various fruits in our beloved gizzadas. With various flavors like shredded carrot, beetroot and pineapple in their catalog, this is what Venise Hooper, the V in V&M had to say to the CanadianYardie team.
CanadianYardie (CY): What is V&M Creative Gizzadas all about?
VM Creative Gizzadas(V&M): V&M Creative Gizzadas is about infusing fruits and vegetables in shredded coconut as a pastry which is an authentic Jamaica product..
CY: How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
V&M: We got the idea because me and my mother, Marcia, saw the need for our products to be different from whats on the market. People are use to just shredded or grated coconut only. Marcia, my mom thought the product can be done in different colors, so we tried food coloring, a person that we sell to was not excited as how we would love to have them sold, we tried red food coloring and a man said “A WAH DIS, Ah beetroot?” So that’s when the idea came, that’s when when we tried all fruits and some vegetables..
CY: What is the number one challenge when starting a business?
V&M: Unable to seek the right funding that is really low cost for start up as a very small business as entrepreneurs. .
CY: What was your mission from the outset?
V&M: My mission is only to have my Jamaican people trying something outside the box also with a healthy twist to it…
CY: How do you advertise your business, and how does social media help?
V&M: By Whatsapp status and Instagram so far..
CY: What would you say is the most unique thing about your business?
V&M: The unique thing is being creative as much as possible and most of all using my own Jamaican fruits included in the products.
CY: To date what would you say is your biggest accomplishment?
V&M: The exposures, like you giving me the opportunity to spread the news across Canada..
CY: Are you products available overseas if so how can we get them?
V&M: no the products are not overseas, I would love that to happen which is soon.
