The soulful TIA is like a blend of both Lauryn Hill and Alaine which ended up being two of her musical inspirations. The CanadianYardie Team had a chance to toss a few questions her way and here is what the songstress had to say.
CanadianYardie(CY): Who is Tia and how did you get that name?
Tia(T): My name is Tiara, so my friends and family has been calling me Tia for as long as I remember. So that’s what I decided to go with for my stage name. I want to be closer to my supporters, so what better way than to have everyone call me by my nickname?
(CY): How would you describe your music?
(T): I create reggae/ dancehall music about life and love.
(CY): What sets you apart from the other emerging artists out here now?
(T): I would consider a lot of my music to be timeless. Stuff that can be played in the future and not sound old (lol). I also feel that my combination of style and music touches people across many demographics.
(CY): What genre would you place your music in and why?
(T): Reggae/lover’s rock and I speak about different aspects of relationships, and also about the realities we face in our lives.
(CY): Which artist made the biggest impression on you growing up?
(T): Lauryn Hill, Alaine, and India Arie. They made it okay to sing about real life issues black women face, and they have a very clever and artistic way of presenting themselves.
(CY): To date what would you say is your biggest accomplishment musically.
(T): My biggest accomplishment was getting to work with platinum, hit-making producer of Jamaica, Troyton, on the True Emotions Riddim. Also being number 5 on the IndieChart.com in the reggae category.
(CY): Do you write all your material, if yes would you ever consider using a writer ?
(T): Yes, as of right now I write all my music by myself. I would love to collaborate with other songwriters in the future.
(CY): If you could choose any artist to work with, who would they be and why?
(T):I would love to do a song with Beres Hammond because he was the first performer to move me to tears.
(CY): What does Tia’s itinerary look like for the remainder of the year?
(T): There is a lot more music to look forward to and I will also be doing more networking and promoting to different countries. Im also looking forward to performing this summer . Hopefully one of those places can be Canada!
(CY): Is it possible to get a CanadianYardie drop/jingle for free or for dirt cheap lol?
(T): Of course
